At TASOK, our Elementary School (Kindergarten–Grade 5) builds on the strong foundations set in Preschool, expanding inquiry into deeper, more

complex learning experiences. Guided by the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) framework, students grow as thinkers, collaborators, and global citizens, developing the skills and mindsets needed for an ever-changing world.

Relationships and Environment

Strong, caring relationships are at the heart of learning at TASOK. Students and teachers work in partnership to build a supportive community where collaboration, agency, and respect are deeply valued. Within this foundation of trust, learners feel confident to ask questions, take risks, and engage deeply with new ideas. These relationships extend naturally into the learning environment itself. Classrooms, outdoor spaces, and shared community areas are thoughtfully designed to encourage exploration, independence, and ownership. Flexible, student-centered environments invite interaction, creativity, and discovery, nurturing curiosity at every stage of the learning journey.

Inquiry as a Process and Action

Inquiry remains at the core of the TASOK learning experience, growing with students from playful exploration in the early years to disciplined research and critical thinking in the upper elementary grades.
Through six transdisciplinary themes each year, students design questions, conduct investigations, collaborate with peers, and make connections across subjects such as Language, Math, Science, Social Studies, PSPE, and the Arts. Kindergarten students engage with four Units of Inquiry annually, while students in Grades 1–5 explore six units, each centered around a powerful idea and guided by lines of inquiry.

At TASOK, inquiry naturally inspires action. As students deepen their understanding, they are encouraged to apply their learning beyond the classroom—solving real-world problems, advocating for causes, initiating projects, and making meaningful contributions to their communities. Action, both large and small, is celebrated as a vital and authentic outcome of engaged, purposeful inquiry.

Learning Areas

Literacy and Numeracy

Literacy and numeracy development is foundational across the early years and elementary grades, empowering students to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage deeply with their learning.

In the PYP, literacy and numeracy are woven into Units of Inquiry and taught through real-world applications. Students learn to communicate ideas, solve authentic problems, and reflect on their thinking through daily reading, writing, math investigations, and collaborative projects.

World Languages (French)

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

TASOK promotes social-emotional growth through Positive Discipline, classroom community-building, the Wayfinder program, and everyday experiences that foster resilience, empathy, and inclusion.

SEL in the PYP is intentionally built into all learning experiences, helping students reflect on their feelings, set personal goals, navigate challenges, and build caring, inclusive communities.

PE and Health

Music and Art

Technology Integration

Technology is thoughtfully introduced and woven into learning to foster creativity, collaboration, inquiry, and responsible digital citizenship, with age-appropriate use of devices like iPads and laptops.

In the PYP, technology is not taught as a stand-alone subject but as a tool for inquiry, research, problem-solving, and creative expression. Students learn to use technology ethically and purposefully to enhance their learning journeys.

Science and Social Sciences through Inquiry

At TASOK, science and social studies are embedded within our Units of Inquiry, encouraging students to explore the natural world, societies, cultures, and systems through authentic investigation.

Students think like scientists and historians—posing questions, conducting experiments, analyzing sources, solving real-world problems, and reflecting on how people and environments are connected. Inquiry in these areas helps students develop critical thinking, global awareness, and a deep understanding of the world around them.
