Born and raised in Kinshasa, Evelyne’s journey is one of resilience, curiosity, and quiet leadership. Although she once dreamed of becoming an agronomist and was accepted to study in Belgium, life took an unexpected turn when her father fell ill. Returning home, she redirected her energy toward meaningful work that combined service, learning, and community.

Papa Landu (Janitor) – 39 Years of Service and Dedication to TASOK

Always smiling, discreet, but deeply committed to his work and to the community, he shares with us a bit of his story and his view of the country, Congolese culture, and the role each person plays in passing on values.

For nearly four decades, Papa Landu has been an integral part of life at The American School of Kinshasa (TASOK). Hired in 1986 at the age of 16, he has witnessed the school’s evolution, transformation, and growth while leaving his own mark on it. From the workshop to the garden, the kitchen, the store, and even protocol, Papa Landu has held nearly every possible position, always with the same rare qualities: dedication, respect, and service.
