Boys' Varsity Soccer Program:
Core Principles of the Team:
Respect- respect for your teammates, your coaches, your opponents, the referee and respect for the game of football/soccer.
Hard work- the players understand that the more work they put in at practice, games and outside of practice, the better players they will become.
Enjoyment- The players need to enjoy playing the game and enjoy learning and understanding more about the game, so that they are able to mature as a player. It also makes the playing environment enjoyable when all the players are enjoying the game.
Practice is an integral part of the boys' football/soccer program at TASOK. The team focuses on the fundamentals of football/soccer, as well as new skills. Practice is a time for them to compete and try out these newly acquired skills and work on the fundamentals of the game. Practice is a very serious time and the players are encouraged to treat every practice as if it were a game situation. This allows an easy transition from practice into games.
Games are played weekly throughout our spring season. We play a lot of local talent with varying playing levels. This allows TASOK players to understand different playing systems and feel comfortable playing different styles of play. Most of these games are played on TASOK's soccer field as it is one of the nicest pitches in Kinshasa. We try to play local talent at their pitch when we can.
We prepare mainly in the spring for a tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is played at the American International School of Johannesburg. This is a great chance for TASOK players to compete against other international schools, as well as some local teams in the Johannesburg area. It is a great way to get the players out of Kinshasa and give the players a chance to show themselves on an international level.
