TASOK 50th Anniversary:
June 2011 1961 to 2011
This school year TASOK celebrates 50 years of quality US education in the Congo. Founded in 1961 by an agreement between the United States Embassy in Kinshasa (then Leopoldville) and a consortium of Christian Missionary groups, TASOK began in a small compound on the river near Simms Chapel and moved to its present location in 1966/67.
In spite some of the most difficult and violent conditions in Africa over the past 50 years, TASOK has endured and maintained both its strong spirit and identity and the excellent quality of a TASOK education kindergarten through grade 12. That is cause for a major celebration, and we’ve been preparing since 2009 to make that happen. Students are the only reason TASOK exists, and as alumni you represent individually and as a group just how fine an education TASOK has provided and continues to provide.
We are hoping for a significant alumni attendance at events the week of graduation. Alumni worldwide are working together with Kinshasa based alumni, making plans and offering logistical support to aide incoming travelers. Below is the schedule of major anchor events for the week celebrating TASOK’s 50th. See the reunion website (link below) for up to date posting of travel information, events, and day trips proposed during the week, as well as the weeks before and after.
